Esmeraldo Madlangbayan Vasquez
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father Esmeraldo “Rading” Vasquez on January 5, 2018. He continued to live his life to the fullest despite battling cancer.
He is predeceased by his loving wife Josefina (2009), his three-day-old child Marianito, his parents Gonzalo and Anastasia (Madlangbayan), and his sisters Mena and Thelma. Left to cherish his memory are his children Carlito (Jacquie) and Roselle (Rhick) along with his grandchildren Soleena, Sasha, Jasmine and Jaden. Also left to mourn his passing are his sisters Lucita (Lamberto), Benilda (Constantino) and his brother Dante (Fe), his nephews and nieces, Larry (Trish), Charlton (Mary Ann), John (Brandon), Chris (May), Sheryl (Chris), Danalyn, Jennifer(Richie), and his great nieces and nephews Cassie, Gavin, Taylen, Jordan, Connor, Madison, Aiden, Miya, Talia, Parker, Regan, Tyson, Carter, Ali and Macy.
Born in Alapan, Imus, Cavite, Philippines on August 8, 1938, dad was the eldest of six siblings. He spent much of his childhood helping his parents in the rice fields to help support the family. He graduated from Emilano Tirona Kawit High School and worked as a security guard on a ship. Years later he would meet the love of his life at a funeral and the two of them would marry in 1966. They would take a leap of faith and try for a better life in Winnipeg, Canada in 1974 with their two small children. He worked for Motor Coach Industries for 29 years until retiring in 2003 to finally fish, garden and walk at Polo Park full time. When our mother sadly passed in 2009, dad showed great strength and perseverance. He lived independently continuing to go on casino trips, cook, do his word search puzzles, listen to music and spend time with his family and friends. Dad always wanted everyone to be happy, for no one to be sad or troubled. Even in his last days he was making his family smile and laugh with his jokes and quick wit. Dad’s quiet strength was something that was always there for our family. Now that he is no longer with us, that void will be felt in all of our hearts. He will be missed deeply. We have peace knowing that he is back with his sweetheart.
Please join us in remembering our father. Viewing (Lamay) will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to midnight at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere. Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward’s Roman Catholic Church, 836 Arlington St. with father Rainerio Sarce celebrant. Interment and reception to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank all of the friends and family who visited and extended their love and concern for him during his illness. Special thanks are extended to Cancer Care of Manitoba, Home Care, Palliative Program, all doctors, nurses and staff of medical wards of HSC and to the staff of St Boniface Palliative Care, thank you for your compassionate care and for being such a great comfort to our family.
