Eric Guenter Herbert Kloss
KLOSS, ERICH GÜNTHER HERBERT
Peacefully, in his sleep, after a courageous struggle with cancer, Erich passed away on June 27th, 2018 at Freeport Hospital 10 days before his 90th birthday. Husband of nearly 62 years to his beloved Anni who survives him. Predeceased by his parents, Frieda and Oskar, and his brother, Alfried. He is survived by his brother Gerhard and sister Lieselotte and by his children, Dirk and Detlev, and their spouses Janice and Kathy. He was the proud Opa to Neill, Brigitte, and Mathias Kloss, and Kayla (Steve), Tara, and Trevor Sirman, and great-grandfather of Anthony, Nayte, Van and Dylan.
Born in Herdwigswaldau, Germany, he learned agriculture through practice and study. He located to West Germany where he and Anni met and were married in Mülheim on July 21, 1956. They emigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Kitchener. He spent most of his career overseeing production at Heidt Products.
Although he drove through most of Ontario, he preferred nowhere over his home. The garden was his refuge, and he liked nothing more than puttering outside, doing whatever needed doing. He was proudest of his immediate and extended family, and liked to see everyone living in harmony. He was practical to a fault, frugal through experience, neat in appearance. He was always ready to help those around him and set a good example. He was grateful for good neighbours.
Erich’s family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 am – 10:45 am on Monday, July 2nd, 2018 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel at 11:00 am. Interment at Parkview Cemetery. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Diabetes Canada or the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
