Obituary for
Emma Szeman
Emma Szeman (Dajka)
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our mom on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Welland Hospital with her loving family by her side, in her 86th year. Her two daughters Paula Berketo ( Rob) and Elinor Stefaniuk (Michael) will miss her every day. She has three grandchildren, Francis and Cedric Berketo and Jayne Stefaniuk whom she deeply loved. She is now with her “one and only” husband, Frank Szeman who predeceased her in 2013. Emma was a kind, gentle woman who always put others first. Born in 1933, in Lestock Saskatchewan, she came to Port Colborne as a young girl with her parents, Peter and Eleanora Dajka, and her older brother Steve. She loved school and went to Dewitt Carter where she eventually returned as a teacher. She excelled at all academics and was class valedictorian at Port High. Emma touched the lives of many through her teaching, caring and giving. Since 1961 she has lived in Fonthill. Emma had a rare bond with her older brother Steve and his family and throughout all of her life, especially after Frank passed, he was her Guardian Angel. Friends will be received by the family at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill on Sunday, November 11th from 2 – 5:00 pm. The funeral service to honour Emma’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 13th beginning at 11:00 am. Emma will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Fonthill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
