Obituary for Ellen Cortes
Ellen Cortes of Mount Clemens Michigan and formerly of Walpole Island First Nation passed away peacefully in Mount Clemens on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the age of 80. Ellen is the daughter of the late George & (Cassie DeLeary) Nash. Predeceased by her beloved husband Rogelio Cortes. Loving mother of Marc Nash and Ronald Cortez and grandmother of George Cortes. Sister of Lew Nash and the late Vince, Jack and Dorothy. Ellen was very proud to have earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communty Service and in Education. She loved people and put her skills to use teaching public school in Chicago. A church goer, she was very active in the Native Communities of Chicago and Michigan and was involved with the American Indian Health Service, helping many people to their health care appointments. Ellen was also a member of the Red Hat Club. The funeral will be celebrated at Walpole Island Sports Complex (770 Tecumseh Rd, Walpole Island) on Tuesday, July 17 at 1 PM with visiting in the hour prior.
