Obituary for
Elisabeth Klein
Elisabeth Klein, loving sister of Peter and the late Eric, Johanne, William and Gerry. Lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews and friends. Growing up in Toronto as one of six children, Elisabeth graduated from the University of Toronto with a Diploma in Occupational Therapy. During WW2, she joined the Royal Canadian Medical Corps as a Lieutenant, serving at three locations: Chorley Park Military Hospital in Toronto, Gordon Head Conditioning Centre on Vancouver island and Quebec Military Hospital. After the war, she returned to the U of T and received her B. Sc. in Nursing. Following graduation, she worked for the V.O.N. in Toronto and then for the Red Cross outpost Service in Metachewan, Temagami and Whitney, “Ontario. She also worked at the Huntsville District Hospital and the York County Health Unit. In 1960, Elisabeth found her life’s work at the Ontario Society for Crippled Children where she stayed for 25 years.
Announcing her retirement in 1984, the Society’s director of services described Elisabeth as ‘a loyal and committed employee, Beth will long be remembered by the countless families she has served.”
Elisabeth’s home on the York River in Bancroft was the beginning of a wonderful time in her life. She loved her house in the country, the birches on her property, the riverbanks, the river, and having all of nature so close by. After many years of enjoyment, a fractured limb one winter made her realize how isolated she was, and she moved into town.
During her retirement, Elisabeth volunteered at the library, the second hand shop and other charitable organizations and enjoyed travelling.
