Obituary of Eliot McKinnon
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eliot Morrison Mckinnon on December 2, 2018 in Wolfville NS. Eliot was the cherished son of Heather Price and John McKinnon, step-son of Peter MacKay and Jan Alberts, brother to Britt, Scott, and Rosie, grandson of Neil (and Mary) Price, and nephew to Carolyn and Fritz Weiland, and Nancy (Price) and Paul Morgan. Kurt and Erica Weiland, and Angus, Noel and Gabe Morgan also grieve the loss of their gentle cousin Eliot.
Eliot was drawn to the mountains and to the sea where he felt a deep sense of peace and belonging. He was a gifted athlete: cyclist, marathon runner and avid hiker. He was also a consummate musician: he loved and experienced music as a deep expression of both the joys and sorrows of life and his songs and guitar playing were hauntingly beautiful. Eliot was a poet and writer, and an avid reader, all of which helped him to deepen his own humanity in an intensely personal expressiveness.
Above all, Eliot loved helping people. His kindness to others was one of his most notable qualities. Perhaps this came from his own inner suffering: he wanted no one else to endure the kind of pain and alienation he so often experienced. As a recent assistant at L’Arche, Antigonish, core members appreciated his kind and gentle nature infused with humour and a sense of fun.
We will miss Eliot beyond what words will express. He was so kind, so caring and so loved. We pray that he is now at peace.
A memorial service will take place at Wolfville Baptist Church Friday, December 7, 2018 at 1:30 pm. Memorial donations in memory of Eliot may be made to Talbot House, Frenchvale NS, rosalie@talbothouse.ca or L’Arche Antigonish: outreach@larcheantigonish.ca.
