We regret to announce the
passing of Effie Violet MacDonald, formerly of Loch Lomond Road, Enon,
at Harbourstone Enhanced Care on Friday, December 21,
2018.
Born January 23, 1934, in Lake Uist (Loch Lomond), she was
the daughter of the late Hector and Nellie (Holmes)
MacDonald.
Effie was a long time member of Loch Lomond United Church,
where she sang in the choir. As one of the founding members of the
Loch Lomond Heritage Association, Effie loved working in the kitchen
at the hall. She enjoyed a good game of cards, gardening, working on
the farm and entertaining a full house of company with a good meal. An
animal lover at heart, many a stray cat was the recipient of
Effie’s kindness. She provided a warm, caring home to
boarders employed with the Department of Mines. One of her favourite
memories was working around the forge with her father.
Effie is survived by her cousins, Hector (Louise), Jamie
(Genora), Angus (Sharon) and Joan Ferguson, as well as her wonderful
neighbours, Dan Neil (Bev), Jerry (Ann) and Reg.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Angus
Alexander “Angie” in 2015; sister, Mary C. (Donald)
MacDonald; and brother, Hughie James (in infancy).
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on
Thursday, December 27 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will
be held in the chapel on Friday, December 28 at 11 a.m., with
Reverends Victor and Carol MacLeod officiating. Interment at
MacCuish-MacKeigan Cemetery, Lake Uist.
Memorials in memory of Effie may be made to the
MacCuish-MacKeigan Cemetery, 32 Tain St., Sydney, NS, B1P 1Y4 or to a
charity of your choice.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff of
Fisherman’s Cove at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, as well as
Dr. Steven Hall for the wonderful care and compassion
provided to Effie. Words cannot express our gratitude.
