EDITH “TEDDY FAZEKAS 19232018

Teddy died on January 1,
2018 at the age of 94. Born in Sunderland, England, Teddy was the only
daughter of Eva and Frederick Genther, and sister to Thomas and James.
At the age of 11, she was awarded a prestigious five year scholarship
to “The Venerable Bede School for Girls” in
Sunderland.
Teddy came to Canada in
1945 as a war bride of Sgt. Gordon Emerson MacFarlane of Edmundston,
NB. Teddy and Gordon had a happy life in Edmundston. Teddy took
photographs and wrote news stories for the local newspaper. She also
wrote a column for a newspaper in Maine, USA. Teddy was a member of
the UCW, the IODE, and the Edmundston Golf and Curling Club. After
Gordon died in an industrial accident in 1970, Teddy married Gyula
(Julius) Fazekas, owner of the Capital Art Gallery in Fredericton.
Julius died in 2000 on a trip to his native Hungary, where he is
buried in the village of his birth.
Teddy is survived by her
six children:
Jeannie (John Lochead), Heather (Andrew Koncz), Candy (André
Batten), “Mac”/Rob (Jarmila),
“Doc”/Jamie (Jocelyne), and Sandy, as well as by 10
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased
by her brothers and one grandson.
The family extends thanks
all of Teddy’s caregivers and special gratitude to her long
term care giver, Ellen Bellefountaine.
Cremation has taken place.
Teddy’s ashes will be buried at a later date alongside
Gordon’s, on their land in Riley Brook,
NB.
A memorial service will be
held on Saturday, January 20 at 11:00am at Bishop’s Funeral
Home, 540 Woodstock Rd, Fredericton. A light lunch will
follow.
