Edith Kenney
1923-2018
Edith Helen “Edie” Kenney – age 95 of
Halifax, formerly of Kentville, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 in
the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. She had been employed, as
manager, with Don Chase Ladies Wear, Kentville. She had been
active with the Brownie movement, also with the former Blanchard
Fraser Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and with the Conservative Party of
Canada. Edie had a keen sense of humour, loved to sing and
dance, play the piano and enjoyed curling for many years as well as
watching it on television. She was very accomplished at embroidery and
rug hooking with many pieces of her work in the homes of family and
friends. Born in Melanson, she was the daughter of the late Everett
and Cora Mae (Hurlburt) Carey. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry
“Shersey” A’Hearn, Halifax; a grandson,
Lars (Micha) Mitchell, Hong Kong; former sons-in-law, Lee (Barb)
Mitchell, Halifax and Emmett A’Hearn, Halifax;
sister-in-law, Shirley Carey, Avonport; special friends, Linda Lever,
Dolores McCormick, Kaye Nichols and Marion Stiles. She was
predeceased by her husband, Percy; sister, Maurietia Dunfield; a
sister in infancy; half-sister, Janis Reeves; two brothers, Orren and
Earl Carey. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation,
by request. A funeral service followed by reception will be held at
2:00 p.m. Wednesday June 6, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove, Steam Mill, Kings
County. Donations in memory may be made to Valley Regional Hospital –
Carey-Me (in support of palliative care at home); Heart and Stroke
Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements have been
entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,

Dear Sherry
I am so sorry to hear about her mom. My parents told me the other day. I remember your mother when we lived in Kentville and I also remember the store she worked at downtown. I’m not sure but she likely curled with my mom.
