Edith Cheevers
1918-2018
The passing of Edith Cheevers of Fredericton, NB, wife of the
late Patrick (Pat) Cheevers occurred on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at
York Care Centre. Born on September 13, 1918, in Mactaquac, NB, she
was a daughter of the late Perley and Mae (Niles)
Currie.
Among her many talents, she was probably best known for her
abilities as a seamstress. With a piece of cloth and a pattern (and
sometimes no pattern at all), she could produce anything from a
wedding gown to a cowboy costume. There were times when the house on
Argyle street seemed to require a revolving door for friends and
family for whom she created countless garments. She loved to garden,
whether it be flowers or vegetables, and in the spring, loved to pick
fiddleheads right up until she was well into her 80’s. In
years gone by, another favorite pastime of Edith’s was
dancing with husband Pat, to the sounds of Glen Miller.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Sheila and son, Ronnie
(Judy), four grandchildren and several
great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Edith was predeceased
by her siblings Russell Currie and Winnifred Gough.
In keeping with Edith’s wishes, there will be no
visitation hours or funeral service. A graveside service for family
and friends will be held at the Mactaquac Cemetery in the
spring.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at York
Care Centre for their compassion and comfort given to Mom during her
final days and hours.
Memorial donations in Edith’s memory can be made to
the Mactaquac Cemetery Fund or Salvation Army.
