Donna Margaret MacPherson
Donna Margaret MacPherson, passed away Saturday, October
27th in her family home surrounded by her loved
ones. Donna was born October 15th, 1936 the
adored only child of the late George and Annie Mae MacKillop. Donna
was a Registered Nurse and lived her entire life in Howie Centre where
she continued to operate the family business, Lakeview Cabins. Donna
was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm
understanding of what was most important to her; caring for and
connecting with family, as well as nurturing and maintaining
friendships. Maintaining connections with loyal friends and family
traditions were very important to her.
In her younger days you would find Donna whizzing around any
skating rink, cutting a rug on the dance floor, and cooking fabulous
dinners for anyone who sat at her table. In recent years she scheduled
her days around travel, card games, shopping and dining out with her
best friend and confidant, Pat Jessome.
Donna was predeceased by her husband Harvey and will be sadly
missed by her children George (Delores), Halifax and their children
Kaylee and Kyle; Alison, Stellarton, and Kenzie (Jo-Anne), California
and their children Owen and Katie. She will not be forgotten by her
brother and sisters in-law Isabel MacPherson (Halifax) and Owen and
Hilda MacPherson (Belleville, Ontario) and their children; Sheumais,
Sandra, Andrew, Bonnie, Robert and Jamie.
Donna’s wish was to remain at home during her
illness to enjoy the peaceful view of the lake. We are appreciative of
the expertise and guidance from the dedicated team of Palliative Care
and VON staff that brought her wish to fruition. Words cannot express
our sincere gratitude for their support.
The Family will welcome visitors at the Sydney Memorial
Chapel Tuesday, October 30th from 2-4 and 7-9
pm. A funeral service for Donna will take place Wednesday October
31st at 11am in the United Protestant Church of
Sydney River with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment will take
place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials in Donna’s name can be made to the VON
Cape Breton, 200 Churchill Dr. Membertou, N.S., the An Cala Palliative
Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, or any charity of your
choice.
