OBITUARY
Donald Laine Baird
May 7, 1948 – June 7, 2018
It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to our father and grandfather Laine Donald Baird. Laine passed away peacefully June 7, 2018 at the QEll Health Science Center. Born in Truro, NS to Nina Lillian and Alexander “Leslie” Baird on May 17, 1945.
Laine was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Gloria (Bennett), mother Nina, father Leslie and stepfather Joseph Mombourquette. Laine is survived by daughter Margo Baird-McSweeney and grandchildren Rachel Maie, Josephine Gail and Roman David and son Reece Baird (Angela Scott), grandchildren Aidan, Nyobe and Selwyn. Also surviving friend Sandra DeMont children Trevor (Linny), Nikki (Keith) and Cory (Dee), grandchildren Connor, Tyler, Charlie and Ryder.
Laine was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Vimy Ridge and Honorary Fire Chief of Mahone Bay. Laine had a great passion for the fire department and was instrumental in helping form Waverly Fire School. In his earlier years he worked for General foods – Hostess- Frito Lays Limited for 42 years. He was an Atlantic Supervisor and was awarded, 10 years in a row, for highest sales in Atlantic Canada.
Laine loved going to camp with his son Reece and going to figure skating and ballet lessons with Margo. He loved deep sea diving, car racing, baseball, moose hunting and fishing trips to Newfoundland, volunteer fire fighting and then Chief in Mahone Bay.
He loved good company and good food. He was a gentle giant man.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 2pm. Arrangements under the direction of JA Snow Funeral home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, NS. Memorial donations can be made to Mahone Bay Fire Department. Online condolences may be left by visiting jasnowfuneralhome.com
