OBITUARY
Diana Dorathea Lafferty
January 25, 1951 – December 13, 2018
Diana Dorathea Lafferty (nee Godde)
1951 – 2018
On Thursday December 13, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer, Di passed away peacefully at her home with loved ones at her side.
She led by example on how to fight Cancer and left us with tremendous inspiration because from the moment of her diagnosis she faced the future with such positivity, grace, and determination to live each day as fully and normally as possible, never giving up till she finally said “I’ve gone as far as I can go”.
She is survived by her partner Clayton Brinkman, sisters Luise Avery (Ken), nieces Lisa, Larissa and their families; Joanne Dickinson; her twin Leni Flamand (Wayne), nephew Jason, niece and goddaughter Allison and their families; her granddaughter Asia, along with many special extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Frances Godde, her cousin Paul Godde and her son James Lafferty.
Di was born and grew up in Winnipeg. As a young woman, her sense of adventure and love of nature took her to live in Yellowknife and Whitehorse creating special times and relationships which remained forever dear to her. After many years of northern life she returned to Winnipeg with her son James. Shortly thereafter she decided to move to Kenora with James and bought a home there because the geography was so reminiscent of the north. A lifelong dream for Di was to live on a farm and this became a reality when she met Clayton. She embraced farm life and took great pride and joy in her flower and vegetable gardens, harvesting and canning, raising chickens and selling eggs, raising bees and processing honey, tapping maples in the spring, making and selling maple syrup, and raising a few beef cattle. She thrived on the hard work.
When she found some time for leisure, Di loved to head out and explore the land on her gator (ATV) to see what nature would present her with. One of her favourite days was always in the spring when she spied her first bunch of Marsh Marigolds. As the days got warmer she would head down to the lake for a swim and sit on the shore enjoying the peacefulness. She enjoyed fishing and boating and in the last few years spending time on the house boat.
As anyone who dined at her table knows, Di was an amazing cook and she had more recipe books than a bookstore! She had a great love for a wide variety of books and loved her “library”. A favourite hobby was photography for which she had an artist’s eye, resulting in incredible photos. Di loved travel and documented her adventures in the beautiful photo books she created.
Di loved people. She was very accepting, loving, giving, kind and generous. We miss you! You are forever in our hearts.
Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us everyday.
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved and missed and very dear
Thank you to Family, Friends and Caregivers for your support.
