Delores Marie Kruger June 10 1948 April 29 2018

In Loving Memory Of
Delores Marie Kruger
Delores Marie Kruger (nee Anderson) resident of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at QEII Hospital, at the age of 69 years, after a long struggle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Delores was born in Camrose, AB to Dorothy and Bill Anderson. She was born a twin, but sadly her twin sister passed away shortly after birth. She grew up the only girl in a family of four boys (Ray, Cal, Arnie, and Kenny) but, as her brother Ray said, “she could kick their butts if called for!”
Delores grew up loving to draw and was offered a chance to go to school to further her artistic aspirations but, unfortunately, her parents couldn’t afford to send her. Her love of drawing never dimmed, and she often drew landscapes of cliffs and cabins in the woods.
Delores married Wayne Faupel in Hanna, AB, in 1969, and they welcomed their son, Clinton Faupel, in 1970. After their divorce, she met “the love of her life” Donald Howery, and she became a step-mom to Judi Madge and Buck Howery, who were only a couple of years her junior as Don was 22 years older than her! They welcomed their daughter LauraLee (VanDerKaa) in 1976, to which Judi said “I always wanted a sister, just never thought it would be at 27 years old!”
Delores fell in love with horses as she and Don had 16 at one time and were very active in the rodeo scene. She loved to barrel race and show horses, earning many ribbons and belt buckles.
Don passed away suddenly in 1980 from asphyxiation from carbon monoxide poisoning.
She then had a short marriage to Ronald Pownall, during which she relocated to Beaverlodge, AB, and then Grande Prairie, AB, before divorcing in 1984.
Delores loved being a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed baking bread and buns, making the best apple pies.
She met Bill Kruger and moved to Wembley, AB. Delores became an avid gardener and was often found in her garden with her flowers and plants. She married Bill and became a step-mom to his two daughters Angela and Diana.
Delores worked at the Wembley Store and Gas Station, where she was known as “Smiley”. She met many people and gained so many lasting friendships. Delores was known as “mom” to many of Clinton and LauraLee’s friends. She loved each one as her own.
In 1998, Delores and Bill separated and she moved to Grande Prairie, AB. Most of her time was spent being a doting grandma to Stephen and LauraLee’s daughters Courtney and Kailey.
She worked as a night auditor/front desk clerk at Canadian Motor Inn, where she often watched her granddaughters, giving them samples of the continental breakfast (this may have been the start of her “muffin-gifting craze”).
She became a staffing clerk at QEII in 2006 and stayed until her retirement in December 2014. Delores loved her job. Even after her retirement, many nurses remembered her whenever she was a patient – “Hello, this is Delores from Staffing…” She loved putting faces to voices on the phone.
Above all, her proudest achievement was being a grandma! Clinton and Tonya blessed Delores with 4 grandchildren: Ella, Nora, June, and Duke. Although they lived in Indiana, Delores loved to facetime the grandkids and visited whenever she was well enough to do so.
Delores kept busy in her retirement doing Bible studies and volunteering at Christian Fellowship Assembly. Her love for Jesus was not a secret! Delores was always eager to share the Good News with others and was known for encouraging people in their walk with Christ.
Delores was so much more than can be written in an obituary. She was so loving and so nurturing. She was a friend to laugh or cry with. She was a daughter called “Sis”. She was a sister dearly loved. She was a mama – the best ever. She was “Grandma – the brown one”. She was an original and was so loved and will be missed so very much.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018, at 7:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
Her life will be celebrated Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 3:00pm, at Christian Fellowship Assembly in Grande Prairie (11449 92 St.).
