It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Dan Cameron on November 11, 2018. Dan was born in the former city of Fort William, now Thunder Bay, to Claudette and Bob Cameron. He was the second oldest of 5 brothers: Bob. Dan, Gerry. Stewart and Sam. He grew up in Thunder Bay and in Toronto: eventually moving to Kenora. in 1998 with his family.
Left to mourn is his wife Geraldine Kakeeway, son Sean, and daughter Erin, along with mother Claudette. brothers Bob, Gerry (Lorna, nephew Jesse), Stewart (Mariann) and Sam (Tiina, niece Cassandra. nephews Alex and Jacob), step-siblings Bobby and Kristen, step-father Brian, aunt Phyllis, uncle Reg Despins and many cousins. In addition, he is survived by Kakeeway in-laws and extended family.
He was predeceased by his father Bob Cameron Sr., his uncle Robert Despins, both sets of grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Dan loved sports, in particular baseball and hockey. His favourite hockey team was the Chicago Blackhawks. In the summer he was often one to help organize baseball games with family and friends and enjoyed it immensely. He also loved fishing, being outdoors and introduced both of his kids to his favourite speckle trout spot on Ivar Road just outside Shabaqua. His other favourite hobby was astronomy and astrophotography. On clear nights he would set up his telescope to look up at the stars and constellations in the sky. During a lunar eclipse, Dan would capture the best photographs of the moon. He was also a talented woodworker, making shelves, tables and taking pride in his creations, which are still used in the house.
Dan had a great sense of humour, he loved to make people laugh, quick to tell a story and was in general, a great guy. He was often quick to start a conversation with a stranger, making him a very approachable and personable man. He was kind, humble, caring and was never one to stay angry long, and he will be dearly missed.
Dan will be cremated, a small service will be held for immediate family, and there will be a Celebration of life held in Thunder Bay in the summer.
