Obituary for
Charles Walton
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, surrounded by love, Charles Walton journeyed from this life to the next.
Charles was a consummate Winnipegger and cottage owner. He worked for the provincial government as an auditor among other duties and was President of his MGEA local. While in his 40’s he answered God’s call and was ordained as an Anglican deacon in January 1982 and as a priest in January 1985. His specialty became interim ministry and he served in many parishes in the Diocese of Rupertsland. He had a special ability to discern gifts of those surrounding him. In his later years, he did occasional Sunday services, his favourite place being his summer parish of St. George’s Wakefield.
He and his first wife Helen did a lot of traveling in their retirement, which he loved. He often spoke of the many places and people he met along the way. He was a skilled raconteur and loved a good conversation. His greatest enjoyment was at the cottage in Ponemah and being surrounded by family and friends.
Charles’ essence stayed intact when his health challenged him in recent years. He fought hard against his dementia and enjoyed good conversation and laughing with friends to his last days.
He will be truly missed by his wife Katharine Langille, children Matthew (Jocelyne), William (Gwen), Mirela (Treva) and Daniel Aitken, his grandchildren Delonna, Allan, Willow and Jonah; sister Elizabeth Stevenson, mother-in-law Dale Langille, and sons Carl and Paul and their families. He will also be missed by cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen, in 1998.
Thank you to staff of Charleswood Care Centre for their care and compassion these last months, particularly Berta and Tracy, as well as the Palliative Care Team for their involvement.
Thanks also to the Rev. Jamie Howison and The Rev. Rod Sprange for their ministrations on Sunday.
Funeral Service will be Friday June 1st at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Cathedral, 135 Anderson Avenue
Winnipeg, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations In Memoriam may be made to St. George’s Wakefield Anglican Church, Box 219, Clandeboye, MB, R0C 0P0 or a charity of your choice.
Rest well. We love you.
