The death of Carol Ann Hatfield, wife of the late Robert Hatfield, occurred unexpectedly at home on December 24, 2018. Carol was born on September 14, 1946 in Saint John to the late Charles and Bertha (Floyd) Boyne.
Mom was first and foremost a wife, mother and grandmother. For many years, she cared for her beloved husband, Robert Hatfield, with strength and love until his death in 2017. Her daughters Terri (Gerard Sullivan), Jennifer Johnston, and Kayla Johnston (George) and her sons Mark Brown (Jennifer), Jason Johnston (Jackie), Bruce Johnston (Sharon) and Joe Johnston were her pride and joy. She will be missed by her step-children Darrell Hatfield (Stephanie), Lisa Garnett (Norm), Tricia Doyle (Stephen) and Pamela Sudsbear (Shane) and her many grandchildren. She recently welcomed her first great-grandchild and was very excited for the birth of her second great-grandchild in the new year.
While Mom worked in several supervisory positions over the years, including Co-op and Comcare, her primary focus was always her children and grandchildren. Her home and her presence were the heart of our family. She was a woman with strong moral values and by her example, her children have grown up to have the same values. She loved deeply and gave freely of her time, even during the loss of her beloved husband Bob. Her sound advice was sought frequently and used gratefully. Mom enjoyed long walks, baking her famous banana and lemon breads for all family events, showing her gardens to anyone who came by, a good book, and treasured talks with all who loved her.
Besides her immediately family, she will be deeply missed by her friend and cousin Roberta Stafford (Michael), aunt Irma Floyd (the late Frank Floyd), brother-in-law Darrell Nagle, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her dear friends Bob and Winnie Taylor.
In addition to her parents and husband Bob, she was predeceased by her husband Joseph Johnston, her brother and sister-in-law Bill and Missy Boyne, and special sister-in-law Marjorie Nagle.
Following cremation the family welcomes relatives and friends to join them at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424), for visitation on Friday, December 28, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 29, 2018 from St. Joseph’s Church. Remembrances made to the Hope Center or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
