Bertie M.
Canning, 87, of the Villa du Repos and formerly of Peoples Park Tower,
Moncton, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, August 5,
2018. Born in Springhill, NS, she was the daughter of the
late Clarence and Elsie (Brayley)
Welton.
Bertie was a
retired Supervisor at the Salvation Army Thrift Store with 15 years of
service. She was a member of The Salvation Army Moncton Citadel
Community Church, the Home League and the League of Mercy. She also
belonged to the Peoples Park Tower Senior’s Group where she
played the snare drum and enjoyed attending the Golden
Year’s fellowship at the Wesleyan Church. In her
spare time Bertie enjoyed knitting, spending time with her family and
serving and caring for others.
Bertie will
be sadly missed by her daughters, Major Louise Embree (Major Rick) of
Tavistock, ON, Carol Harrie (Ross) of Whites Lake, NS, Lorraine Veysey
(Fred) of Riverview, June Mulligan of Brampton, ON and son, David of
Winnipeg, MB; nine grandchildren; eleven great
grandchildren; brother, Gordon Welton (late Trudy); several nieces,
nephews and extended family
members.
In addition
to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lewis J. Canning
(August 2013); son, Laurie (1958); daughter, Lieut. Colonel Joan
Canning (2017) and sisters, Rowena Bernard and Irene
Melanson.
Visitation
at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on
Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Service to celebrate and honour
Bertie’s life will be held from the Salvation Army Moncton
Citadel Community Church, (20 Centennial Drive) on Thursday, August 9,
2018 at 11:00 am, with Majors Randy and Lisa Randell officiating.
Reception following the service. Interment will be in Springhill
Junction Cemetery, NS.
The family
would like to express special thanks to the staff of the Villa du Repo
of Moncton for their care, respect and consideration given to our mom
during a most difficult
transition.
In memory of
Bertie, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated
