Bernie Powlesland passed away at the Foothills hospital on November 5, 2018 after a long fought battle. Bernie was born November 25, 1944 and is the son of Glen and Grace Powlesland. Bernie is survived by his wife Barb of 52 years and five children: Jeff (Sue), John, Mary Jo (Darrin), Bobby Jean (Chris), Betty Ray (Aaron) and six grandchildren Harley, Blake, Macey, Tait, Cole and Teagan. Bernie is also survived by his sister Janet Watmough and family and sister Ruth (Roy).
Bernie accomplished many things including the Order of Queen Scout Canada, and top honours with 4-H, including the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. He was a lover of sports including basketball, softball and rodeo. He was a provincial champion in horseshoes and track and field.
Bernie raised pure bred Hereford cattle and registered Quarter horses in ranches in Del Bonita, Oliver BC, Waterton and Fort Macleod. He raised many Quarter horses who moved on to prove themselves including “Moon”, out of San Tivio Cuttabar (“Woody”) who stars as Spartan on the TV show Heartland. Bernie had a passion for hunting and was a guide and outfitter in the Waterton area for years.
Bernie loved to visit and have a good laugh with everyone. The door was always open and there was always a steak on the BBQ or campfire. Bernie will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
There will be a gathering in the Spring to enjoy beef and sweetbreads at the Twin Butte hall May 18, 2019.

Sympathies message

  1. Just read the notice on Bernie’s passing. Lucy and I have fond memories of the time we spent on the Powlesland ranch over 20 years ago
Sitting at the kitchen table having morning coffee with Barb and Bernie and the stories we shared at the Twin Butte General store. Congratulations Bernie to a job well done! May your coffee cup never be empty, your skies clear and your cinch belt be tight as you travel on the trail ahead. Our love to you both. Graeme and Lucy Weston ( Markham Ontario)
