In Loving Memory
With great sadness, the family of Belle Buchanan announce her passing on December 24, 2017 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Born on March 5, 1925 in Kingston, PEI. She was the eldest daughter of Lorne and Gladys (White) Smith.
She was a member of Kingston United Church and after moving to Moncton, NB, became an active member of Mountain View United Church – serving on session for many years. She was also Secretary of the UCW General for 10 years, Secretary of the Deborah Unit, life member of the UCW and a member of the Church Choir.
She worked at the Moncton Hospital Annex as Dietary Supervisor until it closed, then at the Moncton Hospital, and finally Kenneth Spenser Memorial Home, retiring in June of 1992 at the age 67.
She was the beloved mother of three sons and three daughters, Brenda Steeves (Stephen), Deborah Steeves (Glenn), Sherry MacKenzie (Kenneth), Blair (Phyllis) Buchanan, Donald (Nora) Buchanan, and John ‘Jack’ Buchanan.
She is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Melody Lajoie (Roland), Brent (Bonnie) Buchanan, Tanya Lacelle (Rob), Steven (Jamie) Leard, Michelle Leard, Curtis (Debbie) Buchanan, Angela Buchanan, Laura Steeves-Green (Robert), Christopher Steeves, Scott Buchanan, Kelly Buchanan, and Kenneth MacKenzie III, and many great and great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Norma Laird (Grant), Brother Harold (Marie) Smith, and predeceased by husband Roland ‘Rollie’ Buchanan, January 5, 1977.
Resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, NB. The funeral service will be held on December 29, 2017 at 11am with Reverend Danny Compton of Mountain View United Church officiating.
Internment at Hampshire Cemetery, PEI will follow at a later date.
