Barb entered eternal life at her residence, Hillside Manor, Monday, November 5, 2018. Her long good-bye to those who loved her is now complete. Barb was pre-deceased by her true love, Joe Hartung, who took such good care of her until his death in 2007. Mom fooled us many times throughout her journey and we can only say her big heart carried her through the years. Her spirit will continue on through her two children, son Paul (Pam) Hartung and daughter Patti (Joe) Bernier. She has demonstrated to her grandchildren and respective great grandchildren, Daniel (Ashley) Bernier (Hartley, Hudson and Sullivan), Michael Bernier (Raven Phelan), Hailey, Caden, Noah, Vanessa and Natalia, Jennifer (Jordan), Artindale, Nora and Hayden, Ashley (Reagan) Hayes, Nathan and Emilia, Jillian Hartung and Joe Hartung, her strength of body and soul and her endless love for family. Barb was born December 14, 1931 to Thomas and Gladys Foley (Johnson). Her siblings Donalda (Sam) Horst, Donald (Audrey) Foley, Grace (Ralph) Holtze, Evelyn Lee, Thomas Foley Jr., step mother Marie Foley and in-laws Clarence (Emily) Hartung, Alice (Bob) Yohn, Raymond (Rose) Hartung and Ada (Richard) Bland preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Dorothy (late William) Norris, step-brother Dennis (Marilyn) Foley , brothers in law Less Lee and Don Hartung (Rose Marie) and sisters in laws Gladys (Jack) Skinner and Darlene Plummer (late George Leach). Barb has many surviving nieces and nephews that were important in her life. Barb worked at Chick Hatchery and later at the Great Atlantic and Pacific Company as head cashier and office manager. She loved her role as wife to Joe, as mother to Patti and Paul, but most importantly as “grandma”. She was so very proud of all of her grandchildren and enjoyed being an enthusiastic spectator to hockey, soccer games, dance and music recitals. Barb and Joe enjoyed travelling, especially in Canada. They had a great fondness for the East Coast as well as the Rockies including visits with Paul’s family in Saskatchewan. Barb and Joe were active members of Zion Lutheran Church and the “Zippy Zioners” when they were well. Barb has been a content resident at Hillside Manor, since dad’s passing in 2007. We cannot thank the staff there enough. They will forever be considered part of our family. As her family we hope she knows what a wonderful influence she had on our lives. Have a safe journey Mom. Your smile, courage and love for life is etched on our hearts. Mom was (as were many of this generation) remembered for their usage of sayisms. Mom’s most treasured quote was the “Golden Rule” “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” We hope the world is listening. Her journey has come to an end, but missing her will continue for our lifetime. Visitation at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 1 – 4 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Laustsen officiating. A reception will take place at the funeral home following the interment in Avondale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to a charity close to our hearts “Chefs with Hart” supporting the Toronto SickKids Hospital through the funeral home. 519.271.7411. www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
