The family of Joseph Aubrey Sheldon Reid announces his passing which occurred on his birthday, Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Bobby’s Hospice with his daughters and sister at his side. Born on December 27, 1943 and raised in East Bay, Cape Breton, NS Aubrey was the son of the late John Joseph and Anna Cecilia (Merlin) Reid. After attending local schools in Cape Breton, he studied at St. Francis Xavier College (Arts) further pursuing his final studies in the Art (Philosophy) at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Edmonton, Alberta. He returned to his native Cape Breton and in 1967 his employment followed him to Saint John, NB, attending UNBSJ in the Business Administration Program while employed as Registrar/Student Services at New Brunswick Community College, Saint John and later as Regional Director with the Department of Social Development, Province of New Brunswick from where he retired in 2002.
Aubrey was an active member in his Parish Church Communities where he resided. He was a firm believer in ‘giving back to his community’ having served on several Boards and Committees. He served as Chair of the Board of Directors of Rocmaura Nursing Home; President of the Board of Directors of Family Plus/Life Solutions Counselling Agency, a Board member of Options Employment Outreach Inc., Sisters of Charity, Lowwood Estates Condominiums as well as Villa Madonna Retreat House. He was a man of faith, intellect, very methodical, kind hearted, caring passionate for the concerns of others, well loved by all whom he came in touch.
Aubrey is survived by his loving and very special daughters Kimberly S. (Brian) Ferris, Kelly Ann (David) Kelter and his cherished grandchildren Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Josh, Jenna, Emma, Abby, Matthew and Anna, great granddaughter Miah, all of whom he loved and who were so important to him.
He is survived by his siblings Heather (Pat) Oakley, Michael (Linda) all of Saint John, NB, Pauline Niedzielski of Cape Breton, sisters-in-law Marilyn Reid of New Waterford, NS and Nancy Laskey of Edmonton, Alberta.
Special mention also of his many close and dear friends whom he loved so much.
He was predeceased by his loving partner and wife Sandra (1988), parents John and Anna, brothers Edward (2016), Jack (2014), sister Mary Jane (1964) and brother-in-law Anthony (2014).
Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424) on Thursday, January 3 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 4 at 12 noon from Stella Maris Church. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances in memory of Aubrey may be made to Rocmaura Nursing Home, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bobby’s Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice. www.fundyfuneralhome.com.
