OBITUARY
Antony Thomas Whalen
August 1, 1927 – November 14, 2018
Whalen, Antony T—Peacefully, Tony passed into the arms of the Lord November 14th, 2018.
Born in northern England (Aug 01, 1927) he was the son of Emily and David Whalen. He was predeceased by his brothers Jack, David and Dennis, sisters Joan and Norah. He is survived by his twin sister Maureen (Winnipeg,) and loving relatives in England.
Tony immigrated to Canada in 1953 after serving in the British Army, particularly proudly serving in the liberation of India.
He built a wonderful life with his family, church and music ministry. After 25 years with the WCB he retired. Then later he enjoyed volunteering at St Vincent’s Nursing Home and other places singing for the residents.
Tony will be remembered for all the things that make the world a better place: compassion, humility, generosity and kindness.
Tony leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Patricia (Ryan) Whalen, daughter Deborah and grandchildren Ryan and Maureen and great grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at St Catherine’s Church on Bayers Rd on Tuesday November 20, 2018 at 11:00am with reception to follow.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville for family.
Thanks to St Vincent’s Nursing Home and the many friends and relatives and the Franciscans of Halifax that helped on our journey.
Donations can be made in memory of Tony to the Franciscans of Halifax or St Vincent de Paul Society.
