Alyson Eccles 2018

Obituary Overview
In loving memory
Alyson passed away December 8, 2018 at the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
The 1977 Brantford, Ontario Centennial Queen was the daughter of Bill and Rosemary McMillan born January 20, 1958 in Paisley, Scotland. Beloved wife of Colin for 36 years and loving mother to Andrew (Lucy), Connor, Lauren and her wee westie Rosie. Dear brother to Jim McMillan (Jennifer) and sister-in-law to Terry Eccles (Linda), Jean Johnson (Doug), Sharron Kendall (George – deceased), Barry Belshaw (Bev) and Cheryl Belshaw. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family, many friends and the skating community.
Alyson was a figure skating coach for 30 years. She coached the Nexxice and Ice Image Synchronized Skating teams and at the Burlington Skating Centre. She was a great coach and mentor. Her teams were highly competitive and very successful, winning numerous provincial and Canadian championships.
She had a keen eye for design of all types, had impeccable taste and loved a good bargain. She was a passionate gardener. Her plant recognition and identification skills were amazing for someone with no formal training.
Of all her life accomplishments, she was most proud of being called “Mum”. Her family is broken hearted to say good-bye to “our bonnie lassie”.
Special thanks to the many wonderful doctors, nurses and staff involved in her care at Joseph Brant, Juravinski, Mount Sinai, St. Michaels and Women’s College hospitals, Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN) and to the Carpenter Hospice for their excellent compassion and care.
As per Alyson’s wishes cremation has already taken place and visitation will be held Friday, December 14,2018 at Dodsworth & Brown Burlington Chapel on New Street (at Drury Lane) between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00 pm.
A celebration of Alyson’s life will be held Saturday, December 15,2018 at 4:00 pm at Burlington Baptist Church located at 2225 New Street immediately next to Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home where parking is available.
In lieu of flowers, and in Alyson’s memory please consider making a donation to the Carpenter Hospice (www.thecarpenterhospice.com) in Burlington. It is a truly remarkable place.i

Sympathies message

  1. Colin..Andrew..Connor..Lauren
I am beyond heartbroken. Alyson was my sister by heart for so many years…your family..my family. While we may have drifted over the years, I am grateful and happy we were able to reconnect the last few years. Take strength in knowing how much she loved you all and how very proud she was of you. You were what made her heart beat. Take comfort in knowing she will always be with you. Her memory will be a gift that keeps on giving, to all of us.
    Much love.
