It is with great sadness that the family of the late Raymond Pierce Foster announces his passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte, NL at the age of 94 years.
Raymond Pierce Foster was born at Shoe Cove Bight, NL on January 31, 1930, to Kenneth and Selena Foster [nee Newbury]. Ray was the second youngest in a family of six. When Raymond was just six years old his mother passed away and he was left to be raised by his father and siblings along with other family members and a caring community. When Raymond was 16 years old, his father married Linda Mills of Burlington, NL.
Raymond is predeceased by his Parents, Kenneth and Selena Foster, his stepmom, Linda Mills and siblings; Augustus Foster [Gertie], Mary Eveleigh [Roy & Augustus], Henry Foster [Meleta & Eileen], Robert Foster [Audrey], Malcom Foster [Vera]. Sons in law, Randolph Pardy, Mings Bight, Earle Kelley, Upper Gullies.
Raymond leaves to mourn, Emma Foster [wife of 73 years], Burlington, brother Claude Foster [Alma] of Baie Verte. A large circle of family and relatives. In 1952 Ray married Emma Mills of Burlington and together they raised eight children; Golda [George Goodzeck], Manning, AB, Audrey Pardy, Mings Bight, NL, Sandra Kelley, Upper Gullies, NL, Lloyd Foster [Diane], Burlington, NL, Christine, [Wallace Noble], Middle Arm, NL, Daphne [Wayne Robinson], Middle Arm, NL, Lindsey Foster [Kimberley], Springdale, NL, Danny Foster [Felica], Burlington, NL. Raymond and Emma were proud of their children and their spouses. Raymond and Emma celebrated their 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchild.
Raymond was a person who appreciated the simple pleasures of life. The company of his beloved wife Emma of 73 years, a drive to Shoe Cove or La Scie to visit relatives always excited him, a trip to visit children or grandchildren, Middle Arm, or Alberta, it was all great! A morning on Snows bank or Frankie’s bank with the boys was pure joy, he always seemed to get the biggest fish, as he would say, ‘your mind has to be on the top of your jigger my son…’. Special services at church with good Pentecostal singing and Holy Ghost preaching excited Raymond! A good meal with family, laughter, conversation and catching up on news about the grandchildren was cherished. Ray was always concerned about the soul’s condition of his family and had a great desire to see his clan in the service of the Master. Many in the family recall hearing the prayers of their dad rising to heavens courts on their behalf.
Ray worked for many years in the fishing and logging industry along with his father and other family members. Later in life Ray worked in the mining industry, some carpentry work and a variety of labor jobs, he went to work for the last 19 years before his retirement with the department of transportation as a truck driver. Ray loved work, his friends, the many adventures of life. He enjoyed his boat and stage, his snowmobile, his smoke house and wood pile. In his retirement years he built 5 boats, the first was his beloved ‘Dreamer’. Raymond was a devoted Christian from an early age. Raymond was 22 years old when he submitted his life to Christ, he was a stelar example of faith and courage to his family and community. Ray served in the united church as a Sunday school teacher and lay reader. In the 1970’s the Foster family joined the Pentecostal assemblies of NL, and Ray served his beloved Faith Pentecostal Church as a board member, lay preacher, song leader, Sunday school teacher, usher and in any way his Lord requested, always with joy and great zeal. RPF, as he often liked to sign his name, ran a good race, finished his course and was eagerly awaiting his promotion!
On January 13th, 2025 Raymond Peirce Foster finally relinquished his earthly tabernacle and exchanged what was mortal for the immortal. The final enemy death is defeated, Raymond has inherited his eternal reward. Ray was a pillar of strength and an embodiment of unwavering faith. He lived his life with grace, humility, and a profound devotion to his faith, inspiring all who knew him. His kind spirit and compassionate heart touched many lives, and his legacy of love and faith will continue to guide and inspire us. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever live in our hearts. Rest in peace. Your faith and strength will never be forgotten. Until we meet again.
