We are deeply saddened to share that George Herbert Baker passed away peacefully on January 11th, 2025, with his family by his side at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. He faced the last two years with quiet strength & dignity.
He was the son of the late Herbert and Addie Baker, and is survived by his daughters Jo Anne (Craig), Jody, son Geoff (Shelley), grandchildren Kristi (Ron), and Matthew (Makala), great -grandson Carter, and sister Marguerite Rose. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Joan (Gray) and sister Kathleen Saulnier.
Dad was a huge Red Sox fan, and enjoyed his trips to Fenway and Florida, for spring training. He also earned a solid reputation as a top-notch provincial bowler, having been inducted into the local Sports Hall of Fame twice (2001, 2003). Dad also worked 35 years with the MV Bluenose as purser and enjoyed the friendships he made during those years.
The family would like to thank the nurses on 4 North for their dedication & tender care of our dad. There really are no words – Also to Tri-County VON & Yarmouth Argyle Home Care, without whom dad couldn’t have remained in his home for as long as he did.
Cremation has taken place under the Care and Direction of Sweeny’s Funeral. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Chegoggin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to 4 North (Hospice Care) at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
