William Hay Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of William Thomas Hay on May 16, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Saint John on March 30, 1943, to the late Frederick and Mary (Blanchard) Hay and was the loving partner to Dorothy Telesnicki.
Bill worked for the Saint John Dry Dock as a welder for 38 years before retirement. He also worked for many years for Speedy TV doing home TV repairs. Bill was a very outdoorsy person who loved to plow and work on small machinery, trailer at Pirate’s Cove and Sebago Lake in the summer, tinker and fix things and he loved to watch his grandchildren play their sports. He was a very active father and grandfather, and his children and grandchildren loved him deeply. He was born and raised in Saint John and had no interest in travelling as Saint John was his home and he had everything he needed right here. He liked to go to legion dances, play cards and darts and he bowled in a league for many years. His friends will greatly miss seeing him every Tuesday when he would meet them for coffee at the mall. Dorothy and Bill loved to go for drives and knew all the best seafood restaurants in New Brunswick. They attended as many yard sales as they could and would try to be the one to get out of the car first to get to the good stuff. You always knew what Bill was thinking because he made sure you did. He lived a long life, but he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his partner, Dorothy, he is survived by his daughters, Bonni (Tim) Whynot of Saint John, NB, Veronica (Patrick) O’Neill of Hampton, NB, and Kimberly (Doug) Sanderson of Toronto, ON; 5 grandchildren, Nicholas (Christina), Jacob, Hannah, Morgan and Amanda (Andy); 3 great grandchildren, Alexis, Brody and Greyson; sister, Elizabeth (Harold) LaPorte; as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Fred (Diane) and George (Angela) Hay.
His family would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Mackin and Dr. Hemmings for the care and compassion shown to Bill while he was in their care.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) where a funeral liturgy will take place on Wednesday, May 22 at 2pm from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Fernhill Cemetery For those who wish, memorial donations to Bobby’s Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
