It is with
deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our loved one,
Thomas Irvin «Tommy OR Tom» Gero, age 53, of Lower South
River, Antigonish County, on May 4, 2024.
Born in
Antigonish on February 4th, 1971, Tom was the son of Catherine and
James Hartling of Monastery.
Tom was a
strong, loving man. His infectiously upbeat personality had the
ability to bring a smile to anyone’s face. Always the life
of the party, Tommy loved to spend time with his friends and family
«Down Home»; where he will be remembered for his quick wit,
sense of humour, and generosity. He was an avid outdoorsman, who found
great pleasure bonding with his loved ones through hunting and
fishing.
When not
spending time with his friends and family, Tom could be found at
Lawton’s, where he was Front Store Manager. After graduating
from post-secondary with an electrician trade, he began as a receiver
at Lawton’s and was promoted over the years due to his hard
work and dedication. Having been taught the value of hard work from a
young age by his grandmother Susan, Tom was proud of his 37-year
career at Lawton’s. He cared for his customers and took
pride in the work of his staff; he will be missed by
many.
Besides his
parents, Tom is survived by his wife, Tracey, Antigonish; his
children, Tenesha (Jordan), Antigonish; Tosha, Halifax; Jayme, New
Glasgow; Terrel (Kaylee), Antigonish; and baby girl, Tamika,
Antigonish. Tom is also survived by his grandsons, Blair Ryland and
Kellen, whom he loved dearly; his beloved only brother, Shannon
(Roxanne), Sydney; special aunts, Elizabeth (Roland), Bernice (Kevin),
Caroline (Fitzroy), Sarah (Gregory), Thelma (Richard), Clara
(Washington), and Alberta; special uncle, Gerald; and many other
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
Tom was
predeceased by grandparents, Susan Lawrence and Jethro Gero;
step-grandfather, Robert «Bob» Williams; great-grandmother,
Effie Lawrence Ash; great-great-grandmother Sarah Jane; aunt, Alma
«Bun»; and cousins, Shanna and Aalyiah
Desmond.
Visitation
will be held Monday at C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street,
Antigonish, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. A United Baptist funeral service
will be held Tuesday in St. Peter’s Catholic Church,
Tracadie, at 2pm, with Pastor Clara Jordan presiding. Burial in
Sunnyview Cemetery, Monastery.
The funeral
will be recorded and available on the funeral home website later in
the day.
In Memoriam,
donations can be made to Autism Nova Scotia or Tracadie United Baptist
Church. Online condolences: www.clcurry.com
