In Celebration of
Stacey Ann Brooks
December 17, 1973 –
April 22, 2024
Our most beloved and cherished Stacey passed away at the age of 50, on April 22, 2024.
In 2016, at the age of 42, our heroic wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, bravely fought and won her first battle against breast cancer. In November of 2023, her battle began once again, and she fiercely faced the disease, until her body could no longer fight.
Stacey Ann Brooks was born on December 17, 1973, in Scarborough, Ontario, to Ronald and Louina Brooks. Although she came in a smaller package, her brave and big personality always entered the room first. Stacey was the younger sister to Kelly (by 2 years) and was always determined to catch up to her older sibling. Whether it was walking, running or riding a bike, she was never far behind. They have always been inseparable and have celebrated the joys and challenges of life together, over and over again. Throughout university and first careers, they remained connected, eventually sharing an apartment in Toronto, in 1995. Stacey successfully held numerous senior marketing roles throughout her career, and continuously climbed to the next level of leadership.
In the summer of 1998, Stacey ran away with Dr. John Brumell to Vancouver, BC. They built an exciting new life, that included skiing, camping, riding bikes, and spending time with new friends. On June 16, 2002, they were married in a private ceremony on Jericho beach and spent a month in Thailand on their honeymoon. With John’s career launching at Sick Kids hospital, they began to build the next phase of their life in Toronto. On August 12, 2009, Stacey and John welcomed Jake Hunter Brumell into the world. Stacey took on the role of parenting with the loyalty and devotion that was her golden standard. Jake was her pride and joy, and she never ceased to ensure he had the best opportunities in life.
Alongside their golden retriever, Honey, John and Stacey took the leap, and bought a lovely cottage in Haliburton, Ontario in 2012. Stacey’s lifelong dream was to own a piece of heaven in cottage country, and she did it well. She loved entertaining friends and family at Trooper Lake, never saying no to the next boat ride or glass of wine on the dock.
Stacey enjoyed holidays and gatherings with the Brumell family, being a wonderful Aunt to (Skylar, Alexander, Ryan, Hunter), sister-in-law to (Mike, Audrey, Cathy) and daughter-in-law to (Bob and now-deceased Sheila).
Stacey loved animals, and cherished her dogs, Honey, and Maple, with all of her heart. She was an incredible Aunt to her nephew Alexander (Kelly and John), and a dedicated cooking partner to her brother-in-law, John (Kelly), especially at the cottage.
Stacey was a dear friend to many. She was always the ringleader, the first to help and the last to say goodnight. We all remember her “laughing so hard until tears” moments, her signature move.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Stacey, in the months to come. Until then, donations can be made to Princess Margaret Hospital or to Sick Kids Hospital, in Toronto, Canada.
The world has a void now, that we all feel with our hearts and souls. But the love Stacey gave, fills that void, a million times over. We will miss you every moment, but never forget a second. We love you.
