Robert (Bob)’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts to announce the passing of Robert Rind. Bob was surrounded by family to the end. Beloved husband of Ritah Rind (nee Clark), devoted father of Pamela Rind-Lediard (Dale) and Teresa Boehm (James) and cherished grandfather of Jack, Carson, Brooke and Leighton. He is lovingly remembered by his two sisters Helen Kobelka (Emil) and Margaret Dykin (Gerald), many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Bob is predeceased by his father John Rind, mother Louise Rind (nee Rothenberger) and stepmother Agnes Rind (Robinson).
Born in Winnipeg Manitoba to John Rind and Louise (nee Rothenberger), Bob raised in Red Lake with his two sisters where he grew to love the outdoors, learned to boat, camp, hunt, snowmobile, waterski and best of all fish. He was happiest when out fishing.
Bob finished high school early and went straight into the Royal Canadian Navy by February 1963 with initial training in Halifax NS. While in the Navy, he travelled parts of Europe, the Atlantic coastline and survived the Bermuda Triangle three times! Fortunately, his years in the RCN was during Peacetime.
Returning to Red Lake in 1966 where he briefly worked at the Hudson’s Bay Company, he secured a surface job at Campbell Mine in 1967 and met his future wife Ritah Clark in 1967 at the Lakeview Restaurant. They married June 1968. Their marriage lasted a span over 56 years, building a lifetime of cherished memories and raising a family. They loved to travel, visit relatives, go on many adventures and have ingrained the love of the outdoors and travel to their children; the family traditions continue.
In throughout the years, Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, shore lunches with the Campbell guys, an occasional game of broomball or curling, camping at Coli, quadding with friends, ski-dooing around the area, downhill skiing at Giant’s Ridge, travelling across Canada, trips to Hawaii or Vegas, jetting off to the Caribbean with couples, and driving to many swim or Judo meets. In the middle years, Bob enjoyed golfing on men’s night, a bit more travel that had him try out parasailing, and scuba diving. Bob took early retirement at age 61, completing 38 years at Placer Dome Campbell Mine. It was one of the best decisions to retire early and spend more time with Ritah in their next chapter of life. With Ritah by his side, he enjoyed taking the grandchildren fishing, out on houseboat rides or down to Midland to watch annual dance recitals and squeezing in a few NHL games. Bob and Ritah also attended many hockey tournaments for their grandsons where Bob was affectionately known as Grandpa Rind to all the kids. He was a very proud grandfather; his family was his entire world. Bob treasured his grandchildren and embraced their various activities and accomplishments.
Bob was a long-standing member of the Red Lake Legion, recently earning his 55 years of service pin this past winter. A lifetime volunteer at the McNeely boat club, he was always ready to lend a hand.
Bob was a very patient man and kind to all friends that our family introduced him to. He welcomed our friends into his home and had many crowds over for dinners that Ritah would whip up. Dinner parties became so large that many were held in the back yard and into the driveway! He shared his homemade wine and many stories over the years. He took sons-in-laws James and Dale in as his own, fortunately these men love to fish too!
Bob will be forever remembered and dearly missed. Every time you cast a line out, think of Bob.
Cremation has taken place, and a private interment will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Hospital Foundation or the Red Lake Royal Canadian Legion.
