It is with sadness that the family of W.A. “Pete” Potter announce his passing on July 25th, 2023 at People Care Meaford Long Term Care Centre at the age of 91.
Peter leaves behind his daughters Jennifer Potter (Greg Montfort) and Jill Potter (Brian Hadden), his sister Paisley Janvary-Pool, as well as the Potter and Hanna relatives.
He was predeceased by his mother Audree Gray and father Dr. Biff Potter, his brother Biff and wife Audrey and brothers-in-law Dr. Zoli Janvary and Bill Pool.
Pete will be remembered for his many years of playing sports in the city of Niagara Falls. He went to Maple St. School and NFCVI where he excelled in basketball, track and field, football, and baseball. He could play anything.
He then spent 10 years at the University of Toronto graduating with a B.A. and then a Degree in Dentistry. While at U of T, Pete played Varsity basketball, football, and track and field. In 1992, he was inducted into the U of T Sports Wall of Fame.
After his studies, Pete returned to Niagara where he set up his dental practice and contributed generously to the Niagara Falls community, including belonging to the Lions Club like his father and brother.
Peter spent his final 5 years living with Jennifer and Greg at their farm in the Beaver Valley, then Errinrung Retirement Home and finally last February moved in the Long Term Care Home in Meaford. We thank the care teams in both Thornbury and Meaford for their outstanding work.
Pete’s presence in our lives will be greatly missed, so please join the family for his interment at the Fairview Cemetery in Niagara Falls, Wednesday, August 16th at 12:00 noon, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Niagara Falls Lawn Bowling Club at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, in-memoriam donations can be made to Project SHARE Niagara at Donation Form (donorperfect.net), and may also be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca
