It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret McGrath on April 23rd, 2024, at the age of 98 at GNGH surrounded by family.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband William (Bill) McGrath and her cherished sister Jean Wires. Beloved sister of Gordon Kinney, devoted mother of Rory McGrath (Virginia) and Nancy Norton (Larry), adored grandmother of Liam (Bridget), Erin (Cody), Darby (Simon) and Emma and special aunt of Bruce (Nicole) and Laura (Bill). Fondly remembered by her many great grandchildren and great nieces/nephews, and many, many friends.
Margaret was born on July 28th,1925 in Glasgow, Scotland. She spent her younger years travelling with her beloved sister Jean and hiking and biking the hills of Scotland. At the age of 18, during the 2nd World War, she joined the W.R.N.S. and survived the Blitz of London. She came to Canada in 1960, and, following her husband’s death, she attended and graduated from Niagara College, and went on to work as the librarian at GNGH for many years, retiring in 1987. Margaret was an accomplished artist and photographer, loved baking, golf, hiking and playing bridge with her many, many friends.
In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main St., Niagara Falls, on Friday April 26, 2024, between 2-4 and 6-8pm. A service to celebrate life of Margaret, will be held at Stamford Presbyterian Church, 3121 St Paul Ave, Niagara Falls, ON on Saturday April 27, 2024, at 11am followed by a light lunch at the church. A private family interment to occur at a later date.
