Loretta McKay Obituary
Loretta M. McKay
Born on November 27, 1928 (North Bay) into a family of 8 siblings: The late Hector, the late Ron, the late Andy, the late Daniel, the late Theresa, Pat Sauve (the late George) and Vivian Desrochers (Bob). Loretta is predeceased by her husband: Floyd Allen McKay and survived by her daughter: Sandra Moreau (Richard); her grandchildren: Kelly Moreau (Young), Devin Moreau (Suzy), Adam Moreau (Megan) and Michael Moreau (Cortney); her great-grandchildren: Silas Young, Benjamin Young, Brennan Moreau, Bentley Moreau, Kohen Moreau and Rowan Kett Moreau; and her step-great-grandchildren: Hayden Docherty and Mason Docherty.
She was married on September 8, 1952 to Floyd Allen McKay in North Bay where they met and then moved to Hornepayne in June 1954. Loretta worked for CIBC and Floyd worked for CNR. Together they raised their daughter in Hornepayne until Floyd’s passing on March 5, 1977. Soon after, Loretta and Sandra moved to Ottawa where Loretta held a legal secretarial position for a lawyer in Parliament. Later, she returned to Hornepayne to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She had several different careers throughout her life. Loretta worked for the OPP as well as working as an Educational Assistant in the Holy Name of Jesus School, a treasurer/secretary for the Royal Canadian Legion and a librarian. She held numerous positions in her lifetime within the community.
She especially was happiest working children, teaching and running a children’s program at the library, volunteering and fundraising for the less fortunate families in our community; going the extra distance to make sure Santa’s list at Christmas was filled for many children in need.
She loved her family and focussed on their every need…no boundaries existed when challenged to make sure of their well being. She took on the role of second mother to her grandchildren and for each one of them she was more than a grandmother. She was extremely proud of them.
She loved collecting china tea cups, enjoyed cookies, tea and good conversation; always having a hidden agenda of problem solving.
She will be missed by her family but has left them with qualities of strength, commitment and love to take forward in day to day life and for that we are all eternally grateful.
A memorial service to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion (Hornepayne).
