Keith Eady Obituary
Keith Russell Eady, residing in Moncton NB, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, February 8, after a lengthy illness.
Born in North Algona, ON on June 26, 1935, he was the proud son of Beulah (Lett) and Stewart Eady.
Keith spent a wonderful childhood in the Rock Lake region of Algonquin Park, where his mother taught school and his father was a Park Ranger. With seven siblings there was never a lack of companionship or adventures to be had. For Keith, growing up in a provincial park fostered a strong appreciation and respect for people and the environment.
While at Glebe Collegiate in Ottawa, a part-time job in a microbiology lab lead Keith to college in Toronto, where he studied Public Health.
While working with Niagara Public Health in 1958, he met and married Irene (Demko) Eady, and they had two children, Su-Ann and Scott. A Bachelor of Commerce, from Concordia University in Montreal, secured Keith a 30 year career in Occupational Medical and Health Services for CNR, Air Canada, Via Rail and Marine Atlantic, culminating in the position of Administrative Officer of Medical and Health Services.
Always an innovator and humanitarian, Keith’s proudest career accomplishments included, the design and management of Industrial Medical Clinics for CN and Air Canada globally; organizing the largest Industrial First Aid Program in Canada; implementation of one of the first Canadian Employee Assistance Programs for substance users; developing a Smoking Cessation Program within CN.
Keith’s other professional activities included: National Past Director of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors; Commander in the order of St. John Ambulance; Past President of Occupational Medical Administrators of America; and Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Administrators.
Upon retiring, Keith and Irene returned to Niagara Falls where he resumed a public health career, in addition to teaching at Niagara College. At this time Keith became a volunteer advisor with CESO, travelling to developing countries to share his professional knowledge, and aid in strengthening their local economies.
In spite of a full professional life Keith was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their cottage in the Laurentians. He was an avid fisherman, canoeist, golfer and skier. Keith coached minor hockey and loved to play soft ball, and always welcomed an opportunity to visit his grandchildren.
A lifelong Mason and Shriner, Keith was devoted to the Masonic Fraternity and the benevolent pursuit of Shriners aiding children in need.
Keith was a loving husband to Irene Eady (1958-2019) and beloved companion to Irene Haley. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brothers Charles, Lloyd, Eldon, Arthur, Donald, and sisters Betty and Leah. Keith is survived by his two children, Su-Ann Steeves (Doug) of Moncton, NB And Scott Eady (Linda) of Jasper, AB; his cherished grandchildren, Erin (Ryan), Trevor (Caro), Addison (Eilish) and Emerson; precious great granddaughters Eloise, Violet and Sasha Su; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Mylene Despres, Dr. Marc Savoie and Mme. Savoie, and the physicians and staff of the Dr. Leon Richard Oncology Center. As well, heartfelt appreciation is extended to Rev. Aaron Billard, Dr. Arsenault, Dr Richard and the Nursing and Comfort Care staff of Ocean Hall for the wonderful care and attention shown our father.
A service to celebrate Keith Eady’s life will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657. Mountain Road, Moncton NB with Rev. Billard leading the service. Reception to follow at Fergusons.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals, or St. John Ambulance would be appreciated.
