Dr. John Frederick Goodfellow PHD husband of the late Marianne Goodfellow of South Esk NB, passed away Thursday January 26, 2023 at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 80.
Born in Newcastle NB, he was the son of the late Alfred Mark and Byrdie (Croft) Goodfellow.
Dr. John F. Goodfellow was a Beaverbrook scholar and he earned a PHD in Nuclear Physics from McMaster University. He went on to become a University Professor at The Technical University of NS and retired from teaching High School Math, Physics and Enviromentel Science at MVHS and Blackville High School.
John served on multiple organizations as a dedicated proponent of a rural way of life, personal freedom and local governance.
He is survived by three sons; William Goodfellow of Halifax, Luke (Lesleigh) Goodfellow of South Esk and Dr. Alfred Goodfellow and wife Dr. Sarah Flynn of St. John’s Newfoundland, two brothers; Dr. Frank Goodfellow (Dr. Mary) of Rothesay, NB and Vernon Goodfellow (Donna) of Point Au Carr, NB, seven grandchildren; Jazmin, Ailis, Lachlan, Brighid, Catherine, Evelyn and James.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by one sister Brydie May.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation. Funeral Service will be held at Davidson’s Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 2 PM with Rev. Charlene Maguire-MacKnight officiating. Burial will follow in the Williamstown United cemetery.
In his memory, donations to Miramichi Regional Hospital Palliative Care or a memorial of one’s choice would be appreciated.
