It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Pierre Beauregard on Friday, April 19, 2024, in Ottawa at the May Court Hospice at the age of 95.
Jean Pierre is survived by his second wife, Lise Julien, his sister Louise, his children Mark (Yasmine Ayroud), Philip, Teresa (Andrew Timms), Stéphane and Gerald (Cynthia Samboo), 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Michaela (Moloney) and their son Larry.
Jean Pierre was born in Montreal. From an early age he loved aviation and music. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from Loyola College and McGill University. Throughout university, he played saxophone and clarinet in a swing band that he cofounded with his brother Paul. After graduating, Jean Pierre pursued a successful 40-year career in aviation with assignments in England, the US, Canada and France. He played a key role in the development and production of well-known aircraft gas turbine engines at Pratt and Whitney. After retiring from full-time work, he provided consulting services to clients in Canada, France and South Africa. Jean Pierre was past president and Fellow of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute and was awarded the prestigious JAD McCurdy award for outstanding achievement in aeronautics. He received an honorary doctorate from Carleton University and the Gold Order of Merit of Poland.
Jean Pierre was an avid tennis player until the age of 94. He also enjoyed skiing and sailing, activities he introduced to his children. After retirement he enjoyed playing saxophone in various amateur bands in Ottawa and Florida. JP said a key to his happiness was having the right wife at the right time: Michaela for 60 years and Lise for the last 10.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. Gupta as well as the nurses and volunteers at May Court. We are extremely grateful for the kindness, compassion, excellent care and dignity toward Jean Pierre these past months.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor), Ottawa on Friday, May 17th from 2-4 & 6-8pm and on Saturday, May 18 from 1pm until time of Celebration of Life livestreamed ceremony at 2pm. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care Ottawa, May Court Site or a charity of your choice.
