It is with saddened and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ida Petrunti (nee Tartaglia) on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. After a courageous and heroic battle with cancer, our beautiful beloved Ida peacefully succumbed to her illness in the loving care of Bob Kemp Hospice, surrounded by her devoted family.
Ida meant so much to so many. She was a cherished wife, mom, mother-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend to an incredible number of people, but most of all, the BEST nonna to her six grandchildren.
Ida was the adored, loving wife and best friend of Vincenzo for 60 incredible years. She was an extraordinarily devoted and proud mom to Joe (Lory), Amalia (Jerry), and Pat (Kathy). She was the most selfless, energetic, and caring nonna to Jessica (Taylor), Vincent, Nicholas, Anthony, Kayla, and Zachary.
Predeceased by her loving parents, Pasquale and Maria Tartaglia, and in-laws, Guiseppe and Maria Amalia Petrunti, she will always be their cherished and loving daughter and daughter-in-law.
She was a loving and precious baby sister to the late Matteo (the late Anina), Vince (Lucy), the late Donato (Rita), Rosina Casciano (Donato), Angelina Camillo (the late Adamo), and Elisa DeGiuli (the late Mario). Ida was a dear sister-in-law to the late Flaviano Petrunti (Concetta) and Mafalda Carnevale (Tonino). She was a greatly loved and cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews, and her late niece Lora. She was also cherished and will be sadly missed by many cousins and extended family in Italy.
Ida was born on January 2, 1942, in Santa Croce di Magliano, Italy. She immigrated to Canada in 1960 with an optimistic spirit to begin a new and promising future. She soon brought over her first love, Vincenzo, and together they continued their journey as husband and wife. Ida’s life can be encapsulated by these “F” words: Family, Friends, Food, and Fun. In her 82 years, she experienced an abundance of each. She was an amazing cook who always loved to create and prepare gourmet meals for her family and friends (especially her grandchildren) and had infectious fun doing so.
Until the end, Ida maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her full and wonderful life. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, generosity, thoughtfulness, compassion, and a zest for life. She truly wore her heart on her sleeve and gave endlessly to all. Ida will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched.
A special thank you to Dr. Kazemy, Dr. Shaw, the nurses on C3 and staff at the Juravinski Cancer Center/Hospital for their excellent care and compassion over the last year and a half. Many thanks to the support workers, family members, and friends who also supported Ida during her battle with cancer, and the staff and volunteers at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice for a beautiful and peaceful passage to eternal life.
Visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, Ontario, on Tuesday June June 18, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A Vigil prayer will begin at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Margaret Mary Parish, 20 Idlewood Ave., Hamilton, Ontario, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Bob Kemp Hospice. The family would welcome a message of condolence at Baygardens.com.
