Harold’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harold Rose announce his sudden passing on Wednesday March 29th, 2023 at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre at the age of 85 years. Harold was the son of the Late Ernest and Sarah Rose (nee Warren). He was also predeceased by his wife, Regis Rose (nee Francis); sisters, Clara (John) Coley and Margaret Gaulton; brothers in-law, Walter Chafe, Walter Francis, Ozzie Francis, Clarence (Theresa) Francis and Arthur (Nellie) Francis; sister in-law, Margie (Fred) Ongo; nephew, Christopher Chafe and niece Annie Chafe.
Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories are his son, Harold; sister, Susanna Chafe; brother and sister’s in-law, George Gaulton, Dorothy Cross and Florence Francis; nieces and nephews, Debbie (Alvin) Francis, Lucy MacKenzie, Noel (Tina) Chafe, Susanna Chafe, Christopher Gaulton, Craig Gaulton, David Gaulton, Scott Francis, Lori Francis, Lilly Gaulton and Wyatt Gaulton plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
Harold was born in Fox Island, Newfoundland. He came to Port aux Basques to work with Marine Atlantic. He met his wife, settled down here and retired with Marine Atlantic after 36 years. Harold loved the outdoors; including hunting and fishing and he always enjoyed watching a good ol’ game of hockey. Very active in the I00F Lodge and a dedicated member of St. James Anglican Church. He was the chauffeur of Port aux Basques; you never needed to call a taxi or would be stuck cause Harold would give you a ride in a heartbeat. He will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Thursday March 30th 2023 from 7-9 pm. and Friday March 31st from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. NL. The funeral service will be held on Saturday April 1st, 2023 at 11 am at St. James Anglican Church, Port aux Basques, NL, officiated by Rev. Jane Allen. Internment to follow at St. James Anglican cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Harold can be made to the family or St. James Anglican Church.
