Gordon Nielson
1939-2023
Gordon Nielson, 84, of Riverview,
passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by
family, at The Moncton Hospital on March 5th.
Born in Norquay, Saskatchewan, he was the son of the late Axel (Aksel)
Nielson and the late Alice Clark.
He is survived by his daughter
Sandra (Bernie), step-daughters Lori and Heather (Cheryl) and son
Greg. He is also survived by his sisters Winnie and Grace, brothers
Bob and Clark; along with a number of nieces and nephews. He will be
missed by his granddaughter Kaylea, step-granddaughters Katie and
Jessie and seven great-grandchildren. Gord was pre-deceased by his
loving wife Lorraine in 2016.
Before his death, Gord left his
faithful canine companion, Pixie, in the capable hands of his dear
friends, Jim, Michelle & Katie Musseau. Gord was a dog lover
and will be met at the end of the Rainbow Bridge by a large number of
his previous pets.
Gord was an avid Nascar fan and
rarely missed watching the race. Chase Elliott has lost a big fan.
While he was in good health, he loved to spend time in his garage
puttering on anything and everything, especially on anything with an
engine! His latest project was re-building an old Harley Davidson golf
cart.
While serving ten years in the
Royal Canadian Navy as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician, Gord
studied, and wrote his exams to become an Aircraft Maintenance
Engineer, which became his career after leaving the Navy in 1966.
During his time in the aircraft industry, he worked in British
Columbia for Skyways, ConAir and also ran his own Aircraft Maintenance
business. In 1976, Gord moved from BC to New Brunswick where he took a
job as Chief AME with Forest Protection Ltd. In 1982, Gord took a job
with the NBCC where he was instrumental in developing their Aircraft
Maintenance program.
He taught the program at the
College for about 20 years and then retired.
Gord and Lorraine loved the
summers in their trailer at Mic Mac campground and more recently at
River Run ground where Gord enjoyed playing washer toss, the
occasional game of cards and regular « Miller Time » visits on
the decks of various good friends.
At his request, there will be no funeral. A graveside service
will be conducted at a later date at Kirkhill Cemetery in Sus.
Arrangements are entrusted to Cobb’s Funeral Home and
Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview (869-2007).
