Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary. He was born in Moncton on May 4, 1947.
He passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Moncton City Hospital.
Gary was predeceased by his parents Annie (Peters) Arsenault, Jimmy Arsenault, his biological father Laurie and his little brother Dougie. He will be sadly missed by his devoted, loving wife Janet (Price) of 52 years, his son Darren (Tammy), his daughter Angie (René) and his grandchildren Alyssa, Brandon, Jacob, Zachary, Ryan and Carter.
Gary also leaves behind his sisters; Cheryl Anne and Darlene, his brother Daryl (Kim) and his two nephews Nicholas and William; along with several cousins.
In his younger years, growing up in Coal Branch, his Mémère and Pépère Gauvin were a big influence in his life. At eleven years old he moved to Lutes Mountain with Jimmy and Annie.
Gary was an electrician by trade and started his working career at Hi-Lite Electric, where he worked for fourteen years. He began working with the Canadian National Railway in the position of Mechanic A and retired as a Field Maintainer with twenty-seven years’ service. He then worked for several years with Canac International, working mainly in New York. Gary was very well respected for his mechanical and electrical knowledge in troubleshooting on heavy equipment, especially the P8-11. Even after he retired from Canac, he would still get phone calls from the boys looking for help and advice.
Gary was a Charter Member of the Magnetic Hill Lions Club and was a friend to many, always willing to lend a helping hand. “The camp” was Gary’s favourite place to spend time with family and friends. He had a passion for drag racing and did his fair share of it with the local boys. He also enjoyed watching the NHRA drags, either live or on TV.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. David Ross for his exceptional care and friendship of over 30 years. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff in Acute Care/Emergency Department and the 4200 Unit for their compassion for Gary and all of us. A sincere thank you to Father Damien of St. Augustine’s Parish for visiting and praying with Gary at the hospital. And a special thank you to Calvin and the staff at Fergusons Funeral Home.
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd, Moncton (506-858-1995) on Thursday, March 30 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. A service to Celebrate and Honour Gary’s life will be held following the visitation at 2:00 pm from the Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel. Reception to follow in the Funeral Home Reception Centre.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Lone Pine Cemetery (5085 NB-126, Canaan Station, NB E4T 2A7) or charity of donors choice are appreciated. Condolences for the family can be shared on the Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook page or at
