Darlene Christie MacLean
May 30, 1960 – June 19, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Darlene MacLean, peacefully at home surrounded by her children, Shay-la and Jeffrey MacLean. Angels transported Darlene on her journey back into the arms of her saviour and to be greeted by her loved ones that passed on before her. She was predeceased by her daughter Jennifer Swain, her mother Olive MacLean, father Eric MacLean, and brother-in-law Jim Blasko. Darlene is survived by her children Shay-la and Jeffrey Maclean, spare child Summer Ricketts, sister Sharon Blasko, brothers Harold MacLean, John and MaryAnne MacLean, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Darlene was born, raised, lived, and passed in/near Selkirk, Manitoba. She spent the majority of her childhood on the farm with family and horses as well as any random animal she could catch. Her 20’s and 30’s were spent building her family and her passion for breeding registered Rottweilers and German shepherds, using Schutzhund training for the show ring and RCMP. In her 40’s her focus changed to her children and building a farmstead near Lockport complete with nearly every critter, but a soft spot for horses. Her career shifted to teens with multiple diagnosis in a group home setting and they became her extended family, bringing the farm to Winnipeg and kids to the farm often. After the tragic sudden loss of her daughter in 2005, Darlene retired and passed the time as a collector of all things puzzle, gel pen, and beads. She rekindled her love for life by involving family and friends in her farm life and horses, helping anyone that asked on training tips for animals, and showing kindness and generosity to anyone that needed it.
Darlene’s service will be held June 30, 2023 at Gilbart’s Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. in Selkirk, Manitoba followed by lunch and burial in Little Britain Cemetery. Some ashes will be reserved and spread at the farm where she invested her heart and soul.
