Alvin MacLean
MacLean, Alvin Gardner – Age 73, Truro, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, February 9, 2023, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Alvin Bernard MacLean and Laura Maude (Skinner) MacLean.
Gardy spent many years of his life working in various construction related trades. He was very skilled with his hands and enjoyed carpentry. For those who knew him well, he had a quiet demeanor and was a man of few words. When he did engage in conversation, he loved to talk about historical events, dates, facts and random trivia. As a part of these conversations, he loved to debate. Anyone who knew him well knew that he loved Elvis, and you could catch him often singing Elvis tunes. Dean Martin was also another one of his favorites.
He was a very committed grandfather and never forgot birthdays, or special events in his grandchildren’s lives. “Grampie” always had a little something for them. Jordan had a special relationship with his grandfather and will miss him dearly, especially taking “Grampie” to Tim Hortons.
Gardy is survived by his son, Dean (Zina), Truro; daughter, Shelley, Truro; sisters, Gloria, Dartmouth, Diane (Leo), New Glasgow, Marva, Toronto, Lois (Wendell), Dartmouth, Glenda (Eugene), New Glasgow, Rhonda (Larry), Amherstburg, Ont., Janice, Maryland, USA, June, Sally, both of Windsor, Ont., Patsy, St. Croix, Virgin Islands; brothers, Gary, Saint John, Reggie (Cathy), Westville, Randy, Toronto.
He was predeceased by his father, Alvin B. MacLean and mother, Laura Maude MacLean; brothers, Kevin and Sherman MacLean; sisters, Norma Ashe and Betty Durant.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gardy’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15th from 1-2 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, officiated by Rev. Dr. Cheryl Ann Beals. Repast will take place following the service at the Truro Fire Hall, 165 Victoria Street, Truro.
