Tony’s Obituary
Tony Clyde Gillard, 85, of Reidville, NL, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2022 at the Corner Brook Long-term Care Home.
Tony is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rita Gillard, and his children, Leah (Neil) Wack, Cheri Wallbridge, Keith Gillard, and Dan Gillard; and his grandchildren James Wallbridge, Chelsea (Bronson) Boley, and Nathan Wack; and great-grandchildren William, Alexander, and Emily Boley.
Tony grew up in Deer Lake, where he lived until he joined the Canadian armed forces in 1960. He traveled the world as a soldier and then made his home in Alberta and BC when he left the service in 1974. He returned to Newfoundland in
1984 and settled in Reidville where he remained for the rest of his years. Tony was an outdoorsman, jack-of-all trades, and avid sports fan. His sarcastic wit was well-known and appreciated by his family and friends, and his most cherished companion was his dog, Buddy. They spent many hours together at the Sheffield Lake family cabin, that he built with his own hands.
A special thank you to the caring staff at Western Memorial Hospital and Corner Brook Long-term Care, who provided kind and dedicated care to him in the last months of his life. Your tenderness and concern were very much appreciated by his family. Also a special thank you to Dr. JP Kielty and staff of Deer Lake, for the many years of care you provided.
Formal services will not be held, as per Tony’s wishes. He was always a private man, in life and death. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the Guardian Angel program at Western Regional Hospital Foundation foundation@westernhealth.nl.ca
