Obituary for
Ronald Norman «Bumpy» Crowe
Crowe, Ronald “Bumpy” Norman – Age 86, Salmon River, passed away peacefully at home on August 13, 2022.
He is survived and adored by his beloved wife, Edna Belle (McMaster), now in Wynn Park after 50 years living in their home in Salmon River where they raised their five children, Nancy Crowe (Adrian) Samson, Michael (Kelly), Randy (Christine), Craig (Pamela) and Scott (Tammy).
Ronald was a proud son of the late David Crowe and Lima Studivan Crowe. His surviving siblings are Johnnie, Herman, Max and Shirley Irving Fraser. He is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Hal, Stirling and sister, Jessie Stewart.
He enjoyed showing off his family photos to anyone who stopped by for a chat. He was cherished by “His Girls” (daughters-in-law) who cooked the most delicious meals and desserts for him and stopped for visits many times a day. He never met a pie he didn’t like, and it is rumoured that he never missed a meal.
He is respected, treasured and missed already by his proud grandchildren, Jeffrey, Amanda, Nadine, Bradley, Ryan, Jessa, Linsey, and Danielle. He enjoyed the newest crop of babies as his great grandchildren began to fill his lap: Siannah, Sawyer, Bellamy, Neela Belle, Eli, Brier, Blair, Aubree and Mac. Bumpy always knew where the best cookies were hidden, and they enjoyed every second of being spoiled by him and Nan.
There was never a harder worker than Ron. His feet hit the floor with the sun, and he had a full day of projects planned. If you ever needed a hand, a tool or a spot of advice on where to find a part – he was your man. He was generous by nature, and nothing made him happier than to do something to help anyone, anywhere.
In his early years, he worked for Lloyd Webster, eventually starting his own trucking company aptly named “Crowe’s Trucking”. His customers appreciated his fairness and work ethic, knowing they could always count on Ron. He was proud to have the business taken over and continued by two of his sons. He could fix or fabricate just about anything and became an integral part of the Bible Hill Detachment of Department of Highways, fixing and driving equipment of all sizes and kinds until his retirement in 2000.
He was rock-steady, brimming with kindness, with the motto that there wasn’t a darn use in complaining- even when flat on his back in a hospital bed. His answer to how he was doing was always “Great, just great!” no matter what. After retirement, Ronnie and Edna spent many weekends hooking on to the camper, choosing a campsite with a view of the traffic rolling by so he could offer a smile and a wave to each one.
Ron will be remembered by many, for things like always carrying a notebook and pen in his shirt pocket to track just about everything. He made sure every vehicle he had was hooked up to his beloved “Ooga horn” to make people smile. He was the keeper of the spare keys, the fastest backwards runner, and only knew one dirty joke about a white horse and a mud puddle. He was a simple man who loved a good piece of fudge and a hat with your business name on it. He had a fondness for anything with an engine, loved to be paid in date squares, and was almost certainly the kindest husband to walk the earth. He had an air of determination and perhaps a touch of stubbornness that he has most certainly passed on. If there was ever a problem to solve, Ron was the man for the job. He fulfilled every obligation he ever committed to, stood behind what he said, and always made sure Edna had her chocolate treat.
This lasting impact was not something he strived for; it was just who he was. He led by example, and it’s time for us to carry on his legacy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
