Obituary
JESUS said « I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the FATHER except through me. » John 14:6
It is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of Richard Asp at the age of 80 years and 11 months. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Janet Ruth; brother Ron; sister Jean; sisters-in-law Linda (Bart) Hampton and Gloria Kowalchuk; nieces Sheryl, Christine, and Donna; nephews Jason and Scott; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Richard was predeceased by his beloved parents Theodore and Edna Asp, and an infant brother Dennis.
Richard was born in Wetaskiwin and lived his life there. He graduated from Wetaskiwin Composite High School in 1960 and later obtained his Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Alberta. He was a School Teacher and School Principal for thirty-four years in Wetaskiwin, Millet and Westerose. He met and married his wife, Janet Kowalchuk, in 1979. Janet and Richard shared a special love and devotion for each other. They travelled the world together and enjoyed visiting over fifty countries often as passengers on cruise ships. Richard had many interests and hobbies with a faithful passion for fitness, especially running, and logged over one hundred thousand kilometres on the trails. Richard found life amazing and cherished every day on this earth. Even as his health began to fail, Richard remained optimistic and certain of his eternity in heaven with his Lord and Savior.
Sincere appreciation and thanks are extended to his special nurse, Christy Card, for her love and exceptional care.
A funeral service will be held at the Wetaskiwin Mission Church on Thursday, December 15th, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Richard’s memory can be made to the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation – Long Term Care (6910 – 47 Street Wetaskiwin, Alberta, T9A 3N3), or to a charity of one’s choice.
