We are saddened to announce the death of Richard George Hartley. Rick passed away peacefully on September 27, 2022 after a long battle with COPD and Alzheimers, with his wife Margaret at his side.
Rick was born on February 5, 1947 in Kenora, Ontario. He grew up in Winnipeg and made his way to the Sunshine Coast when he was 16. He attended Pender Harbour Secondary School when he was in grade 10, moved to Victoria for graduation and eventually found his way back to Pender Harbour. Rick and I lived in Garden Bay for 28 years, with our children Stephanie and Geoff Warner. We moved to Clearwater in 2017 where he loved working on the property with his yard tractor!
Throughout his life, Rick enjoyed boatbuilding, working on the house and yard, boating, camping with his family, and blues and rock and roll. He loved his pets and all animals. Rick hid a soft heart under a sometimes gruff exterior. He was passionate about his family and was always happy to help out someone in need.
Life was never boring with Rick!
He is survived by his wife Margaret, stepchildren Stephanie and Geoff Warner, his mother Barbara Wood, his brothers David and Scott, his son Dory in Winnipeg, grandchildren Alec, Nicole and Paige, numerous brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father George Hartley.
We thank everyone for their kind words and support. A Celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date, likely in May in Pitt Meadows.
