Norris Carol ‘Doreen’ 2022

Norris, Carol ‘Doreen’
Born to the late Carl and May Ogilvie in Toronto on July 4th, 1932, Doreen set sail peacefully from Thornbury, Ontario at the age of 90, on December 16th, 2022.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband Clare and brother Alan, survived by her sister Joyce (David), sister-in-law Diane (Alan), nephews John (Michelle), Andrew (Helena), Cameron (Veronica), great-nephews Brandon, Adam, and Alex, great-nieces Ashley (Michael), Christine (Lucas), and Kaye, great-grandnieces Chloe Michelle, Alexis Joy, and Lilah Jane, and her dear friend Tony.
Doreen was an enthusiastic and passionate teacher, consultant, Vice-Principal and Principal throughout her 35-year career with the Toronto Board of Education, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from U of T and a Masters of Education from O.I.S.E. along the way. Her life-long passion for learning continued after retiring to Thornbury. Doreen became a prolific painter. She played the saxophone and clarinet in the Georgian Sound Big Band and the Valley Concert Band, embracing a love of music instilled early in life at N.T.C.I. She sailed the waters of Georgian Bay with her husband Clare, her brother Alan, and their many friends. Doreen and Clare travelled throughout North America to ski, and were members and ski instructors for years at Devil’s Glen Country Club. Doreen was dedicated to her community. She helped raise funds for charitable causes, and volunteered as a board member for groups such as the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts and the Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting. Doreen was a kind and gentle person, who led a long happy life of significant contribution. May you have fair winds and following seas Doreen-you will be missed!
The family extends its thanks to Yvonne Hunter-Wickens, who provided wonderful care and support to Doreen throughout the last years of her life.
A celebration of Doreen’s life will be held in the New Year.
