MARY TURBIDE (DEEGAN) of Montreal, Quebec, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the West Island Manor in Pierrefonds. Born May 10th, 1931, she was the youngest of seven children born to William and Helena Deegan of Pointe Ste Charles. She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret, Kathleen, Rose and Rita and her brothers Dan and Bill.
Mary was married for 67 years to her beloved husband Charles, who died in April 2019. She will be deeply missed by her three children, Diane (Hugh), Michael (Tracey) and Lorraine. Her cherished grandchildren Leo, Matthew and Lee gave her much joy and satisfaction. She had recently become a great-grandmother to baby Charles, born to Matthew and Sofia.
She is survived by fifteen nieces and nephews on both sides of her family, and was close to her sister Margaret’s children, Daniel Adams and Kathy Carswell.
Throughout her long life, Mary was a kind and gentle person who liked to laugh. Her grown children and grandkids would often find $20 bills tucked in their pockets after a visit to her. She took a caring interest in her children’s friends, keeping in touch with several of them. For most of her adult life, she was a parishioner of St. Thomas More, the church where she was married in in 1952 and where a commemorative Mass will be held later this fall. She worked for ten years at Simmons Mattress company and made good friends there. She loved reading and music and dancing and overcame her innate shyness to join a line-dancing group in Verdun. She travelled to Hawaii with friends and, memorably, to Atlantic City, where she was picked from the audience to be a contestant on The Price is Right and won a prize. But she was never far from Charlie, whom she would frequently describe as “such a good guy.”
