Mary Elizabeth (Ritcey) MacLeod
June 4, 1950 – June 11, 2022

Mary Elizabeth (Ritcey) MacLeod June 4 1950 – June 11 2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Elizabeth Ritcey-MacLeod on June 11 2022 at Dartmouth General Hospital. She was born on June 4, 1950 in Halifax to H Douglas and Margaret (Sherwood) Ritcey. Mary attended St Charles Tupper Elementary School, Cornwallis Junior High School (present Central Junior High School) and graduated from Queen Elizabeth II High School in 1968. After graduation from Miss Murphy’s Business in 1969, she worked for two years for the Royal Bank of Canada. In 1972, she obtained her dream job as an Air Canada Passenger Agent at Halifax International Airport, which permitted her to travel to several foreign sun spots over her 4 years at Halifax Airport. On June 12, 1976, she married and promptly moved to Montreal where she worked in the Air Canada Purchasing Department. In 1978 she and Mac moved to Scarborough, Ont., where she worked for several years in the Air Canada Reservation System Computer Centre. In 1983, she left Air Canada to embark on a more fulfilling career as a mother with the arrival of son Kevin followed by daughter Alison in 1986. In 1990 she and her family moved to Antigonish, where she continued her career as a mother and as a hockey and softball mom. In 1998, Mary and family moved to their present home in Dartmouth. Once settled in Dartmouth, she accepted a position with the Halifax Police Service as a Crossing Guard on Waverley Road, where she remained for 16 years, until retirement in 2015. Since retirement, she had enjoyed her time as a special Nanny to her grandchildren. While in Scarborough then Antigonish and finally Dartmouth, she served as a Sunday School teacher. Once her children finished Sunday School, Mary turned her talents to singing alto in the Port Wallis United Church Choir and serving as an elder at Port Wallis United Church. Mary will be remembered by her children and her grandchildren for her big heart and deep love for them, by her brothers and cousins and their families for her love and the importance she placed in family and by her friends for her smile and her outgoing friendly nature. Also fondly remembered will be her Queen of Pickles, her chocolate chip cookies and her crisp sugar cookies. Mary was predeceased by her parents and a special cousin, Roderick Grant. She is survived by her husband Malcolm (Mac), son Kevin of Halifax and his children, Ethan Meloche of Windsor, Ontario and Hayleigh MacLeod of Hammonds Plains, N.S., daughter Alison of Dartmouth, her husband Jerome Landry and their children, Nora, Oliver and baby Cameron. She is also survived by her brothers Charles, with partner Lynn Wilson, and Andrew, with partner Virginia Venoit, one niece, 3 nephews and several cousins including special cousin, Carol Bartlett. Cremation has taken place and no visitation is be held. A Celebration of Life service is planned for later in September at Port Wallis United Church in Dartmouth. The family wishes to repress its heartfelt thankyou to the doctors, nurses and support staff of Dartmouth General Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Mary during her difficult stay with them. Donations may be made to Port Wallis United Church General Fund, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Condolences to the family can be left at www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca.
