MARIA JOSEPHINE LEEWENS
February 20, 1934 – February 26, 2022
Maria Josephine Leewens passed away at Extendicare Bayview in Toronto, just 6 days after her 88th birthday. She will be greatly missed by her devoted son, Peter Boymans, loving daughter-in-law, Johanne Denis, and cherished grandsons Eric and Philip Boymans. She is predeceased by her three brothers and two sisters, but she stayed in touch with her nieces and nephews who will also miss her kindness, strength and sense of humour. Maria was born in Padang, Sumatra, Indonesia, to Jacoba Paulina Boon, from Padang, and Cornelis Johannes Leewens, from the Hague, Netherlands. She immigrated to the Netherlands when she was a young girl. She married Albertus Hendrikus Boymans in 1960, and she immigrated to Canada in 1974 with her young son. Maria worked as a secretary and in the retail industry for several years before retiring. She enjoyed cooking, listening to jazz, dancing, having fun with her friends, but she especially loved taking care of her grandsons, whom she loved tremendously. A private viewing where the immediate family members said their goodbyes has already taken place. Maria’s cremated remains will be scattered at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare Bayview for their great care for the last four years.
